Bananas don’t grow in Poland, but they are ubiquitous. They are the most popular tropical fruit in the world. However, bringing ripe bananas to market, from tropical plantations to food stores, is a complex process.
Up to 170 bananas can grow on a single tree
• Unlike seasonal fruit, bananas grow all year round.
Packed bananas are transported to the ship
Banana ships are loaded once a week.
Temperature must not be too low, as this results in overcooling of the product, but in higher temperatures, the banana ripens and may not last in transport.
After quality inspection, the bananas travel to Zgorzelec and Gdańsk where they ripen.
Time to ripen: 4-6 days
Temperature: +18 C
Yellow bananas make their way from Zgorzelec to supermarket shelves throughout the country and abroad.
Immediately after ripening, the bananas make their way to our customers – distribution centres and supermarkets, such as: Biedronka, Kaufland, Tesco, Polo Market, Aldi, Dino, Carrefour, Intermarche Netto, Żabka, E.Leclerc as well as supermarkets abroad: Profi, Penny i Maxima.
Depending on further distribution, all supermarkets individually specify the ripeness of the bananas they wish to receive.
